Dyson Submarine Mop Cleaner

A new addition to the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner is the wiping function. This is made possible by a new brush roller, which contains two tanks.

Two tanks are located. A fresh water tank with a capacity of 300 milliliters and a 360 milliliter dirty water tank. During operation 18 milliliters of water per minute are added to the brush roller, so you can clean for so you can clean for just under 17 minutes at a time.

According to the Manufacturer information for an area of over 100 square meters is enough, I’m in our just under 60 square meters large first floor loosely managed easily. Unfortunately, there is no option to minimize or increase the water flow. or to increase the water flow – for sensitive or particularly dirty floors  that would be a practical thing.

Interesting in any case: The suction function of the Dyson is completely disabled when using the Submarine roller. Only the motorized roller works, and the dirty water is fed into the second tank via a lip inside. This also means that the battery life in wiping mode feels endless.

Also exciting: With the damp roller, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner just glides over the floor, especially on the way forward it almost feels like it is floating. The Submarine attachment does not remove really stubborn dirt or adhesive residues, but its performance is absolutely sufficient for weekly mopping. In any case, a gray sludge awaited me in the dirty water tank.

Is the Submarine wiper attachment compatible?

The Submarine wiper attachment only fits the V15s Detect so far. The “s” is crucial. You cannot currently buy the mop attachment separately and use it on your old Dyson V15 Detect Absolute*.

In principle, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner is a V15 Detect with an additional attachment. Apart from the Submarine brush roller, you get exactly what Dyson has already offered with the Dyson V15 for about two years. However, that should not be a big point of criticism, because the predecessor of the Gen5 Detect* is a really first-class cordless vacuum cleaner that basically has everything you would expect from such a device.

The improvements in Dyson’s new cordless vacuum cleaner, the Gen5 Detect, are limited in my opinion. Sure, the new on-off switch, the integrated crevice nozzle, and the double-bright light on the Fluffy floor nozzle are nice improvements, but in the Apple world, this would be more of an s update move.

How good is the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner really?

The performance and comfort of the new V15s Detect Submarine can therefore only be rated as satisfactory. At least in the Dyson universe, there is currently no comparable product for wet floor cleaning.

Ultimately, however, the point is different: With a pure wet and dry vacuum cleaner like the already mentioned model from Eufy, you cannot just vacuum away the crumbs under the breakfast table or the kindergarten sand brought along in the hallway. Models of this type are basically pure wet vacuums and not dry vacuums.

The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner can best be compared with the Philips AquaTrio 9000 combination device, where the motor unit can be connected to a wet as well as a dry vacuum. No question: The AquaTrio* comes out on top in wet floor cleaning. However, the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner is by far the better device in the dry vacuum cleaner duel.

Compared to the competition in terms of wet cleaning, you unfortunately have to do without self-cleaning in the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner. The Submarine attachment has to be opened manually, whereby it absolutely has to be held straight – the dirty water tank is not closed separately. Afterwards, the components can be rinsed under running water and then air-dried.

Of course, compared to the top models, this is significantly less convenience. With the Eufy Mach V1* for example, you only have to press one button, after which the brush is automatically cleaned and dried. Finally, the dirty water tank only needs to be removed and emptied.

Experiences with the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner

If you are mainly looking for a new Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner with all imaginable options and you see the Submarine brush roller as a bonus to clean your hard floors damp once a week, then the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Vacuum and Mop Cleaner is a good choice.

Purely looking at the Dyson world, it is even the first choice from my point of view. The list price of 949 Euros is just as high as the recently released Dyson Gen5 Detect. In terms of suction power, you hardly have to accept any losses with the Submarine, but you get a real added value with the damp roller.

However, I find it a shame that the Submarine brush roller is not available as a separate accessory. Apart from the new Gen5 Detect, the connection would also fit “older” devices like the V11, V12 or V15.
